Have you ever heard about painting a scarf? A silk
scarf? Well, yes you can paint your silk scarf very easily by using the Direct
Method. It is so simple that a child can also successfully paint a silk scarf
without any trouble.
In this post, we will tell you how to paint your
silk scarf in an easier way. Read on to know how:
Step to be followed for painting a silk scarf:
1. Stretch the silk fabric on a frame- Ensure that
the fabric is properly and evenly stretched. If it is very loose, then it might
sag and if very tight then it might tear. Thus, stretching properly is a very
important step.
2. Spray a mix of diluted rubbing alcohol and
water- Wet the silk fabric with this solution. Doing this slows down the time
of drying. This technique is known as Wet-on-Wet method.
3. Put the 1st layer of dye when the
silk fabric is still wet- Put a background color to the fabric while it is
still wet. See how the lines have a fuzzy and soft edge to them.
4. Add a dark shade in order to add dimension to
your design when the silk fabric is still wet. The shade that you choose should
be darker to the primary color of the fabric. In general, always begin with the
light shades and then gradually move to the darker ones. As the color in the
silk painting is transparent, once you choose the dark shade, it is very
difficult to go back to the light shade. If you wish to have some white shade
in the fabric, then leave out some space in fabric without any color.
5. Allow the 1st layer of color to dry-
You may see some colors in the fabric separating. This happens to some specific
colors particularly when working with Wet-on-Wet method.
6. Add more darker shade to your main color to the
silk fabric- Doing this leaves lines which are dry and hard edge. It gives a
dark outline to the fabric making it more prominent.
7. To make your scarf more beautiful and
attractive, add some decorative touches to the scarf such a simple dots or even
pretty flowers.
8. Soften the harsh lines simply by spraying the
diluted mix on the fabric again. You may also add salt to the fabric to get a
mottles texture.
9. Paint some more designs of your preference with
a darkest shade using the same technique. The dye which is applied previously
the salted layer will react with the salt and make new swirly jagged and swirly
edges.
10. Let the silk dry
completely after finishing of the painting. Before putting on the silk scarf,
ensure that the paint is completely dry so that it does not become murkier
later.
A silk scarf is the best option when you look for
an elegant accessory. The sheen and texture makes it look royal and rich. A
silk scarf can be worn any time of the season and mostly during the winters. It
adds glam to your outfit and also makes you feel warm. The paint in the silk
scarf makes it look more beautiful and glamorous. Thus, giving you a different
scarf to try on with all attires.
